John Singer Sargent

On the Artrage forum one of the threads is to draw a funny imitation of a famous artist and there work...I chose John Singer Sargent a famous American potrait painter who worked in Paris until he painted Madam X ...this picture was thought to be so provocative that he had to leave France....this is my take on it....hope you like it...

  2. Yeah, it basically trashed his continental career and had to go to Great Britain to get his career going again. How ironic that it now is his most famous painting.
Fun spot -you got a nice R.O. Blechman thing going on here, John!
Big fan of him -if you don't know his work you should check him out -I think you'd find him a kindred spirit.

I like Sargents work...he had a way of blending his subject into the background which I like ..

  4. Great stuff John, this one reminds me of one Larry ( one of my fave cartoonists did} where the cleaner is dusting around the statue of Rodins 'The Thinker' and the expression on the statues face. Brilliant mate
